Spotlight on Neroli
We often get asked the question about the products in our Collection, “what do they smell like?”, which is completely understandable, especially when purchasing online. We will be spotlighting every collection on our blog, to try to give a better understanding and description of the aroma profile, why we formulated it the way we did, and based on experiences with traditional fragrances in the market, who is likely to enjoy the aroma.
This article focuses on Neroli, which was our original aroma that we launched in 2018 (the year we were founded), and it has been our number one best-selling aroma ever since!
THE NEROLI STORY
"Neroli takes you on a journey inside Carter + Jane…to the aroma where it all began. It took us 267 attempts to get this one right…but once we did, we knew we created something special! We had a very specific place in Morocco that inspired this aroma, that we accidentally found while driving in the countryside. We saw a sign to an orange “farm” and restaurant…we knew we had to stop….and as soon as we did, we knew we had to bottle that unforgettable aroma that floated through the warm Moroccan air..."
Neroli is clearly our star aroma in this scent and the very clear top and heart (middle) note. If you’ve been wearing a neroli perfume (made with synthetic fragrance vs. essential oils) you are in for a treat. Real neroli oil smells SO MUCH BETTER! Neroli is often described as a delicious harmony of floral and citrus. Its complex aroma fuses floral, citrus and green and is derived from the orange blossom and leaves of the bitter orange tree, with unique hints of honey and spices.
Our organic neroli essential oil is steam distilled from the handpicked delicate white blossoms of Citrus aurantium var amara, also known as the Bigaradia trees, growing in sun-bathed Moroccan citrus groves.
We hand-blend our beautiful neroli oil with organic essential oils: sweet orange, bergamot, ylang ylang and frankincense. We use an organic bergapten-free bergamot from Italy, to reduce risk of sensitization of the skin to sunlight.
The note composition is as follows:
Top notes: Neroli, Sweet Orange, Bergamot
Middle (heart) notes: Neroli, Ylang Ylang
Base note: Frankincense
In addition to our star, neroli, we choose sweet orange, to add a little extra sparkle of cheer and bergamot to soften and round out the citrus notes. Ylang ylang was added to share the “heart” of the aroma with neroli, bringing a sexy, creamy floral aroma. Choosing frankincense as our base was key to ground the aroma, giving it just a pinch of spice…heavenly yet earthy.
In our 3+ years of offering Neroli, we have had almost no returns. It really did take us 267 attempts to perfect this aroma… and it was clearly worth every extra second of time!
